KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened an investigation into several Army-related projects, placing renewed scrutiny on transparency and governance in defence procurement.
Sources said MACC officers were at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) at about 11.30am today to begin preliminary investigations into projects involving the Army from 2023 to the present.
According to the sources, the probe is focused on projects awarded through open tender procurement methods as well as procurements carried out under the Army’s Responsibility Centres (PTJ).
“These projects involve significant public funds, and investigators are examining whether all procurement procedures were properly followed and whether there was any abuse of power,” a source said.
The sources added that MACC is also scrutinising suspicious financial transactions linked to certain individuals named in allegations that surfaced publicly yesterday.
“The flow of funds and the legitimacy of these transactions are key aspects of the investigation,” the source said.
Meanwhile, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which relates to offences involving the giving or receiving of gratification.
He stressed that the investigation is being carried out independently and professionally.
“All investigations are conducted based on facts and evidence, in accordance with the law,” Azam said, adding that no individual or institution is above scrutiny.
The case has drawn attention to the importance of robust oversight mechanisms in defence procurement, an area often regarded as sensitive but critical due to the scale of public expenditure involved. – December 23, 2025
