KUALA LUMPUR – PAS has welcomed the proposal to revive Muafakat Nasional (MN), the cooperation pact previously formed between Umno and PAS.
PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the proposal by Umno Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to revive MN is the key to strengthening and restoring Malay-Muslim unity.
“Congratulations to the Umno Youth Chief. Restart the negotiations, set up a Consultative Committee.
“As soon as Umno/BN declares its withdrawal from the coalition with Pakatan Harapan (PH), we will immediately relaunch Muafakat Nasional,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Dr Akmal had earlier proposed that the cooperation between PAS and Umno under MN be revived amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Perlis.
“We have said it since before GE15, that strengthening Muafakat Nasional should be the priority, not Perikatan Nasional.
“Today we can finally see everyone’s true colours, and we’ve been stabbed in the back. Might as well dissolve Perikatan Nasional altogether and bring back Muafakat Nasional,” he said.
Last night, PAS announced that it has terminated the memberships of three Perlis assemblymen with immediate effect, namely Chuping assemblyman Saad Seman, Bintong assemblyman Fakhrul Anwar Ismail, and Guar Sanji assemblyman Mohd Ridzuan Hashim, for signing statutory declarations (SDs) reportedly undermining the leadership of the state government.
PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision to terminate their memberships was made by the party’s Central Working Committee in a meeting held yesterday.
Following that, Perlis State Assembly Speaker Rus’sele Eizan declared the three seats vacant.
He said the State Assembly would inform the Election Commission (EC) regarding the vacancies for the Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji seats soon. – 25 December 2025
