KUALA LUMPUR – There will be no by-elections for the Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji state seats despite the vacancies following the sacking of three PAS assemblymen, Perlis State Assembly Speaker Rus’sele Eizan announced today.

He said the seats would remain vacant until the next general election, citing recent developments and PAS’ assurance that it remains committed to supporting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state government.

Rus’sele said he had earlier notified the Election Commission on Dec 29 that Chuping assemblyman Saad Seman, Bintong assemblyman Fakhrul Anwar Ismail and Guar Sanji assemblyman Mohd Ridzuan Hashim were no longer eligible to remain assemblymen under Article 50A(1)(a)(ii) of the Perlis Constitution, which would normally require by-elections under Article 55(5).

However, he said he was satisfied that PN’s majority remains intact after PAS pledged continued support, echoing the menteri besar’s statement that the coalition still controls 11 of the 15 seats.

“Therefore, I find there is no longer a need to hold by-elections for the three vacancies,” he said, adding that the withdrawal of the by-election notice had been conveyed to the Perlis Election Commission yesterday.

He said the decision was in line with the decree of the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail for PN assemblymen to remain united in the interest of the state and the people.– December 31, 2025
