KUALA LUMPUR — Former army chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan was seen arriving at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters this afternoon, reportedly to provide a statement in relation to an ongoing corruption investigation involving army procurement projects.
Accompanied by several individuals, Hafizuddeain arrived at 3.10pm in a white car before entering the building, local media reported.
His visit is linked to an investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding military procurement.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had previously confirmed that Hafizuddeain was placed on leave while investigations into the corruption allegations continue.
As a result, the position of army chief was temporarily filled by Lieutenant General Datuk Azhan Md Othman, effective January 1.
The investigation intensified following claims of “large cash inflows” into the bank accounts of Hafizuddeain and his family members, allegedly originating from companies that had been awarded military contracts.
MACC’s inquiry also extends to 26 companies suspected of being involved in the procurement scheme, with the agency focusing on firms that have repeatedly secured significant defence contracts since 2023.
On December 23, MACC officers visited the Defence Ministry (MINDEF) to examine projects that had been awarded through open tender processes, as well as those under the Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ) of the Malaysian Army.
Yesterday, MACC obtained a five-day remand order for 17 company directors suspected of bribing senior army officers in exchange for supply and maintenance contracts. – January 7, 2026
