KUALA LUMPUR – The use of the National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) mobile application is currently not mandatory, and travellers may continue to utilise existing methods for immigration clearance at Malaysia’s entry points.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban confirmed that, despite the introduction of the MyNIISe system, travellers still have several options, including the use of the MyBorderPass application, manual processing, and conventional automated gates, Bernama reported.

“At present, the use of MyNIISe is not mandatory, and travellers still have other options, including passing through autogates with their passports, not just via QR codes,” Zakaria told reporters following a message delivery to Immigration staff.

“Passport scanning remains available, so there’s no need for the public to worry,” he added.

However, he encouraged the public to use the MyNIISe app for a more efficient and faster immigration process.

“For those wishing to use the QR code facility, downloading the MyNIISe app and registering using a MyDigital ID will be all that’s required, and the overall immigration clearance process will remain uninterrupted,” he explained.

On the MyBorderPass application, Zakaria stated that it would continue to operate until full integration with MyNIISe, although the timeline for this transition remains undecided.

He added that the replacement of all old autogates would be carried out in phases.

The Home Ministry recently announced that MyDigital ID would be the single login platform for Malaysians using MyNIISe, effective January 15.

The Ministry clarified that MyDigital ID would securely verify user identities through the National Registration Department database without storing personal data.

Introduced on September 22, 2025, the MyNIISe app was first available at Johor Bahru’s Sultan Iskandar Building and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex.

It is set to expand to Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminals 1 and 2, as well as Bayan Lepas, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu.

As of December 30, 2025, the MyNIISe app had recorded 599,967 downloads, with 287,258 registered users. – January 14, 2026
