KUALA LUMPUR – The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has confirmed that construction work for the upgrading of the Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Mohd Said Hockey Stadium in Seremban 2 is expected to begin in May 2026, pending the completion of the evaluation process and the appointment of a contractor.

The project was tendered on December 24 last year, with the tender scheduled to close on February 12, 2026, KBS said in a statement today.

The ministry added that slight delays had occurred due to coordination with multiple stakeholders.

“Among the processes that need to be completed are land surveying, amendments to specifications and the finalisation of the conceptual design, all of which require confirmation from the client before the tender can proceed,” the statement said.

KBS emphasised that all aspects of the project must align with the approved budget ceiling.

The Public Works Department (JKR) will act as the implementing agency, while the ministry will continue to monitor progress to ensure the project remains on schedule.

The ministry said it hopes the upgraded stadium will benefit the public, particularly in Negeri Sembilan, and contribute to the development of sports, especially hockey.

“We remain committed to making sports accessible to the public and fostering a sporting culture in line with the Madani aspirations towards a healthy nation,” the statement added.

It was previously reported that the Negeri Sembilan Hockey Association (NSHA) has no role in the stadium’s renovation, which has been closed since 2020 due to the poor condition of its turf, drainage system and floodlights.

NSHA secretary Tamil Selvan said the main pitch falls under the jurisdiction of the Seremban City Council (SCC), which is responsible for the upgrade, while the adjacent pitch remains closed until the end of next month for floodlight repairs.

Tamil added that with both pitches closed, Sukma men’s and women’s teams have been training at the Sendayan Turf at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base.

In February 2024, KBS announced a RM5 million allocation for the stadium upgrade, but no renovation work has begun.

It is understood that a recent meeting between SCC and KBS officials to discuss the delayed project reportedly took place without NSHA’s involvement. — January 24, 2026
