KUALA LUMPUR – Salwani Anuar@Kamaruddin, 27, wife of former army chief Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, was brought before the Sessions Court today on a charge of receiving RM5,000 believed to be proceeds from unlawful activities last year.

She pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Judge Mohd Azhar Othman.

According to the charge, Salwani allegedly received the illicit funds, deposited into her bank account, at a branch in Kerteh near Besut on Jan 16, 2025.

The offence is framed under Subsection 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613), which carries a maximum 15 years’ jail and a fine of not less than five times the value of the proceeds or RM5 million, whichever is higher.

Deputy public prosecutor Maziah Mohaide of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) proposed maintaining the bail terms previously set by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court—RM30,000 in two sureties, with conditions that the accused report monthly to the nearest MACC office and surrender her passport.

She added that the prosecution would apply to transfer the case to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to be jointly heard with Salwani’s earlier case and that of her husband.

Defence counsel Fahmi Abd Moin raised no objection and agreed to the bail terms.

The court granted bail on the same terms previously set by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, with identical conditions. Judge Mohd Azhar Othman also fixed March 30 for mention and allowed the case to be transferred to Kuala Lumpur to be jointly heard with Salwani’s earlier case.

On Jan 22, Salwani pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to a similar charge involving RM77,000. She was granted bail of RM30,000 in two sureties by Judge Rosli Ahmad.

That same day, her husband, Muhammad Hafizuddeain, 58, faced four charges at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for receiving more than RM2.12 million in illegal proceeds. He was later charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court last Friday with two additional counts involving RM145,000.

Earlier, on Jan 7, MACC under Op Parasit arrested a senior armed forces officer and his two wives in connection with investigations into tender procurement of army projects. The following day, the officer was remanded for seven days, while his wives were remanded for three and six days respectively.
