KUALA LUMPUR – The suspended police officer famously known as “Inspector Sheila” has once again found herself at the centre of controversy after being detained during the Thaipusam celebrations at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves in the early hours of today.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar was arrested following an altercation with traders at about 4am.

She was subsequently remanded for one day to assist investigations.

Khalid said the arrest was made under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for behaviour deemed to insult the modesty of an individual.

He said officers intervened to prevent the situation from escalating and to maintain order amid the large crowds gathered for the annual festival.

“The woman was detained after an incident that had the potential to disrupt public order near the temple grounds,” he told reporters while attending a community policing programme at the site.

The case is being investigated further.

Earlier, a video of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing the suspended officer being handcuffed by two female police personnel as she voiced her displeasure during the arrest. February 1, 2026
