KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, 100, has been granted home leave after a month of receiving treatment for a fractured hip at the National Heart Institute (IJN) since January 6.
“On February 4 and 5, he was allowed to briefly return to his residence for the night,” said Dr Mahathir’s press secretary, Sufi Yussof, in a press release.
Dr Mahathir is required to return to IJN during the day to be monitored by the medical team and continue his treatment, but will gradually be allowed to return home in stages.
For now, aside from immediate family members, Dr Mahathir has been advised by doctors not to receive visitors.
“Currently, the medical team is satisfied with Dr Mahathir’s response to physiotherapy and his stages of recovery,” Sufi added.
Dr Mahathir, his wife and family also expressed their gratitude to those that have enquired about his conditions and offered prayers for his well-being. – February 6, 2026
