KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has endorsed Selangor’s plan to regulate houses of worship built without approval from landowners or local authorities, following meetings of the Selangor State Executive Council (MKKN) and State National Security Council (MKN) yesterday.
“The Prime Minister insisted that any action must not be carried out by individuals, but together with the local authorities,” said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil at a press conference today.
He added that the Cabinet welcomed a statement from Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on streamlining the process, particularly at the local authority (PBT) level.
Amirudin has ordered improvements to existing state procedures regarding illegal houses of worship on state-owned land and the implementation of clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Selangor Five Religions Houses of Worship Committee (LIMAS).
He said the MKN has decided that landowners who discover trespassing and unauthorised houses of worship on their land must lodge a police report.
“Secondly, landowners should send a notice to the trespassers and formally inform the District Office. The District Security Committee (JKD), chaired by the District Officer, has been activated in all districts in Selangor,” he added, as reported by The Edge Malaysia.
Amirudin also said the JKD would act as a mediator, bringing together landowners, house of worship owners, the police, and local authorities to find a fair solution.
“If this process fails, the JKD will advise the landowner to take court action. This ensures the authorities are involved and helps prevent any unrest,” he said.– February 13, 2026
