SUNGAI BULOH — The Social Security Organisation (Socso) distributed RM6.65 billion in benefits to more than 1.15 million recipients nationwide last year, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said.
The encouraging outcome was a continuation of 2024’s achievements, he said, when more than RM6.1 billion in benefits were disbursed.
“This represents an 8.34 per cent increase (in total benefits distributed last year compared with RM6.1 billion in 2024), while the number of recipients rose by 5.06 per cent compared with the previous year. We are seeing more people contributing, and that is the most important thing.
“I am very proud of SOCSO’s management for their key role in achieving this milestone. They have carried out their duties diligently and in accordance with the appropriate code of conduct,” he said after officiating the Kesuma Socso Lindung 2026 Chinese New Year reception, attended by almost 7,000 people today.
Also present were Socso chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and Selangor State Legislative Assembly deputy speaker Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin.
Ramana said the ministry through Socso remained committed to delivering quality services and ensuring that all groups had access to social protection.
The ministry has planned three policy reform measures to be implemented this year to benefit workers.
“The first measure is Lindung 24 Jam, so protection does not end after office hours. The second initiative is the (enforcement of) Gig Workers Act 2025 (Act 872), which provides protection for young people in flexible work.
“The third reform, announced recently, is the Traveller Scheme for Lindung Kendiri contributors, which is expected to be fully implemented this year,” he said.
The Kesuma Socso Lindung event today involved 15 contributors and their heirs who received Socso benefits totalling RM318,042.84.
He added that 100 orphans received angpao, while 40 widow and widower contributors were presented with hampers as part of Kesuma and Socso’s commitment to supporting the less fortunate.
“Social commitment is extended through contributions to 10 non-governmental organisations and welfare bodies around Sungai Buloh, with each organisation receiving RM10,000 to help support their operations in serving the community,” Ramanan said. – February 14, 2026
