KUALA LUMPUR – A director-general and a director of a government department who were previously remanded to assist in investigations into the alleged misappropriation of approximately RM900,000 have been released on bail by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
According to a source, the two suspects are believed to have abused their positions by using departmental funds for personal gain.
They were released last Friday and Saturday after investigators completed recording their statements.
“On February 11, both individuals were remanded for five days. However, they were released earlier than scheduled once their statements had been recorded.
“The MACC is now finalising its investigation papers before submitting them to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,” the source said.
The two men, both in their 50s, were arrested at around 1pm on February 11 when they attended the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to provide statements.
In addition to the alleged misappropriation of RM900,000, they are also suspected of submitting false claims and documents containing inaccurate particulars amounting to approximately RM60,000.
The claims were allegedly made in relation to performing the umrah pilgrimage while attending official duties in Jeddah between January 29 and February 4 last year.
Meanwhile, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the matter when contacted, adding that statements had been recorded from 18 witnesses to assist in the investigation.
He also said the MACC had seized several valuable items, including clothing, gadgets, electronic goods and sports equipment, with an estimated total value of RM57,000. — February 16, 2026
