Muslims in Malaysia to begin fasting on Thursday

Sultan Ibrahim's decree, following Rulers' consent, sets the start of Ramadan fasting across the country

KUALA LUMPUR – Muslims in Malaysia will begin their fasting on Thursday, February 19, as announced by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.

Syed Danial confirmed that the fasting start date for all states in Malaysia was determined by the directive of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, following approval from the Rulers, Bernama reported.

The announcement was made live on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) this evening.

The sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon was conducted at 29 locations nationwide, including Baitul Hilal at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Pontian, Johor; Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi in Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara, Melaka; the Kuala Lumpur Tower; and the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Additional locations included Kompleks Baitul Hilal Telok Kemang in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, as well as Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor, Bukit Jugra in Banting, Kuala Langat, and the Selangor Observatory in Sabak Bernam. – February 17, 2026
