KUALA LUMPUR — Ramadan bazaars in Shah Alam will once again serve as centres of community support as the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) revives its MySave Food@Bazaar Ramadan programme for 2026.
The initiative, which focuses on reducing food waste while assisting vulnerable communities, will run from February 23 to March 13 at five selected locations: Sections 13, 17, 19, 28 and U16.
Under the programme, traders are encouraged to donate unsold food that remains in good and safe condition.
Volunteers stationed at each bazaar will collect the surplus items for redistribution.
In a statement, MBSA said the initiative provides a practical platform to tackle food wastage and minimise the amount of waste sent to landfills, in line with broader environmental sustainability efforts.
“It also fosters responsible practices in food storage, distribution and consumption,” the council said.
All donated food will be recorded, weighed and labelled before being distributed to surau, mosques, low-cost flats and student hostels at both public and private higher education institutions.
A total of 616 volunteers from various agencies are expected to participate in the programme.
MBSA noted that the initiative has been implemented consistently since 2021, following strong support from Ramadan bazaar traders.
During last year’s campaign, the council collected 7,717 kilogrammes of surplus food.
The programme aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly efforts to reduce food waste and promote sustainable communities. – February 19, 2026
