Leaders, party wings, Bersatu members have offered to fill vacant division chief posts: Tun Faisal

KUALA LUMPUR – Several division leaders, party wing members and Bersatu members have come forward to fill vacancies left by supporters of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin who were expelled or resigned from their positions as division chiefs, including individuals who had previously contested for the post.

According to Bersatu Information Chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, the leadership vacancies for division chief also open opportunities for former leaders from other parties, including former Umno leaders, to join and help develop the divisions, for example in Melaka.

However, Tun Faisal explained that the expulsion or resignation of a division chief would not cause the respective Bersatu division to be dissolved, as the party constitution stipulates that the position can be temporarily assumed either by the Deputy Chief or a committee member (AJK).

He said the Bersatu constitution clearly states that they may act in the role of division chief until new elections are held.

“If the entire committee becomes vacant, the Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) can hold a special meeting to re-establish the committee. A division is not automatically dissolved.

“There are former division chiefs who took part in press conferences announcing the dissolution of divisions, even though those expelled former division chiefs have no standing (locus standi) to speak on behalf of the division.

“There are allegations that some division chiefs signed statutory declarations (SD) because they were paid RM3,000, promised positions, or acted out of personal interest without the consent of the Division Committee, leading to internal objections against them,” he said on Facebook today.

Yesterday, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin became the latest senior Bersatu leader to announce her resignation as Bersatu Masjid Tanah division chief.

Her resignation — she is also the Member of Parliament for Masjid Tanah and Chief of Srikandi Bersatu was made together with 39 other division committee members.

Previously, several Bersatu divisions were reported to have been dissolved, namely Larut, Lembah Pantai, Kepala Batas and Tanjong.

However, the party’s Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, stressed that the allegations were baseless and in fact contradicted the party constitution.

Further commenting, Tun Faisal said, based on the AI summary, the Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) can direct the State Leadership Body (BPN) to temporarily take over the leadership of the affected division and, if there is a major vacancy, the State BPN can administer it temporarily before a Special Conference is called to appoint new leadership.

Meanwhile, in response to disciplinary action taken against several party leaders and members, he said such measures were appropriate in efforts to strengthen the party.

“Disciplinary action is appropriate to strengthen the party and remove Trojan horses, hidden enemies, and wolves in sheep’s clothing from the party. This development is seen as an internal cleansing process to move forward and further strengthen the party,” he said. – February 20, 2026
