Allegations against Rafizi: Anwar says don’t be hasty before facts are known

Prime Minister wants proper investigations instead of publicising claims, whether they be against him or anyone else

KUALA LUMPUR  — No one should rush to make judgements when allegations of corruption are raised against a person, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

Asked to comment on such claims brought by an influencer against former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Anwar today said no one should be condemned before investigations and prosecutions are completed.

“Whatever the wrongdoing, whatever the allegation, we must be consistent (in our action). Regardless of who is involved, if there are allegations, investigate them transparently and openly. If there is evidence of guilt, prosecute.

“But do not publicise or punish beforehand. We should not publicise claims to punish before the facts are known. This is a problem in our country — as soon as someone is accused, people rush to condemn,” Anwar said after attending Friday prayers at Masjid Kampung Seri Cheeding, in Banting.

Anwar said all allegations of wrongdoing, whether against the government or himself, should be treated seriously and not be used to slander.

“Until the facts are known, false accusations can turn good intentions into mistakes,” he added.

Influencer Caprice, whose real name is Ariz Ramli, had made allegations against Rafizi over agreements he oversaw as economy minister involving semiconductor chip company ARM, and a solar project by UEM Lestra. The projects are said to be valued at RM1.1 billion and RM2.5 billion, respectively.

Rafizi, who is Pandan MP, has denied the allegations and accused Caprice of being involved in coordinated social media attacks against him. He has threatened legal action if the influencer fails to apologise for his claims.

In a new Facebook post yesterday, Rafizi said he would answer Caprice’s allegations in detail during his podcast Yang Berhenti Menteri (YBM) tonight at 10pm.

It was also reported that MACC opened an investigation paper into an agreement between the government and a foreign company worth RM1.1 billion.

MACC had obtained documents related to the agreement from the Economy Ministry, after the allegations were lodged with the anti-graft agency by non-governmental organisations. – February 20, 2026
