Muhyiddin confirms attendance at PN meeting, restructuring plans in motion

Bersatu president outlines task force to reorganise divisions following resignations, expresses confidence in loyal members to strengthen the party

KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, today confirmed that he will attend the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council meeting tomorrow, where crucial decisions, including the appointment of the PN chairman, will be made.

In a statement, Muhyiddin assured that Bersatu remains steadfast in its commitment to the PN struggle, stating:

“I will attend the PN Supreme Council meeting tomorrow, where the appointment of the PN chairman, along with other matters concerning the strengthening and empowerment of PN, will be decided.”

This announcement comes in the wake of several resignations within the party, including the departure of division chiefs and committee members in protest of his leadership and the recent sacking of deputy president, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

The resignation of several key party figures has intensified the internal tension within Bersatu, following the sacking of Hamzah on February 13 for alleged breaches of the party’s constitution.

Notable figures who stepped down include Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim, and former Umno minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

To address the growing unrest, Muhyiddin revealed that Bersatu had formed a special task force to oversee the restructuring of the affected divisions and wings.

The task force will be co-chaired by two vice-presidents, Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, while the party’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, will serve as its secretariat.

State party chiefs have been tasked with identifying divisions impacted by the resignations.

“The restructuring of these divisions will involve appointing acting division chiefs or forming new committees in line with the party’s constitution. Likewise, the wings affected by resignations will undergo similar reorganisation,” said Muhyiddin.

Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence in Bersatu’s ability to overcome the crisis.

“I am confident that many Bersatu members who are loyal to the party’s struggle will step forward to take on the responsibility of strengthening the party,” he added. – February 21, 2026
