KUALA LUMPUR — The Madani Government has approved a total allocation of RM123,716,331.27 for the repair and maintenance of 1,048 Non-Muslim Houses of Worship (RIBI) across the country as of December last year, according to the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT).
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasised that this initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to preserving non-Islamic places of worship as essential community institutions, aligning with the principles of inclusivity, unity in diversity, and social harmony, Bernama reported.
“Houses of worship are not merely physical structures but centres for nurturing noble values, national unity, and community well-being. No house of worship should be left in disrepair or neglected, as every community deserves access to safe, decent, and comfortable facilities,” he stated in a press release today.
In a symbolic move, the Chinese Methodist Church in Taiping received an allocation of RM250,000 yesterday to restore the country’s first Methodist prayer hall, a historical site dating back 121 years at Bukit Larut, originally built in 1905. The funding was used for replacing damaged wooden flooring, constructing a new ceiling, repainting, and repairing the electrical wiring system.
Nga concluded his official visit to Taiping with a stop at Medan Siang Malam, where he observed the recent improvements that have transformed it into one of the top tourist destinations for local cuisine. – February 22, 2026
