KUALA LUMPUR — Police have launched a manhunt after Seputeh MP Teresa Kok lost a total of RM6,500 when her car was broken into while she was jogging at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara yesterday.

In a statement to Scoop, Brickfields deputy chief Ahmad Firdaus Mustaffa Kamal said investigations are ongoing.

“Our team is actively working to trace and apprehend the suspect or suspects involved in this case,” he said.

“Three fingerprints recovered from the vehicle have been sent to the Bukit Aman Forensic Lab (BIOFIS) for identification. We are following all leads to identify and arrest those responsible.”

He confirmed that the break-in occurred between 6.15pm and 7.00pm while the MP was exercising in the park.

“The complainant had parked her vehicle in a parking bay and ensured it was locked. When she returned, she discovered that the front passenger-side window had been smashed and her handbag stolen,” Ahmad Firdaus said.

He also appealed to the public for assistance.

“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or has information related to this case to contact the Brickfields police immediately,” he added.

In a Facebook post today, Teresa described the incident.

“When I got back, I found the front passenger-side window smashed. My handbag, which I had placed on the footwell of that seat, was also missing,” she wrote.

The MP reported losing RM2,000 in cash and angpau money, her identity card, several credit cards and other important documents.

She lodged a police report at the TTDI police station shortly after discovering the theft.

Teresa said forensic officers later photographed the vehicle and lifted fingerprints.

“I only left the station at around 9.30pm. I am very grateful for the cooperation and assistance provided in handling my complaint,” she added.

She also urged the authorities to install more CCTV cameras in the park, noting that similar incidents have occurred frequently in the area.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code. — February 23, 2026
