KUALA LUMPUR – One of the victims who died in the fire tragedy that claimed five lives in Kampung Pamah Kulat, Raub, Pahang, was a student of Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) Bentong who was awaiting her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results.
According to the Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, the victim, Ruby Adira Batreisya Mohd Alawi was an outstanding student from an underprivileged family and had been included in the Budi Mara assistance programme.
In a Facebook post, Asyraf said he was deeply affected and saddened by the heartbreaking incident.
“What is even more touching is that her elder sister survived because she is currently studying at a matriculation college, while her younger sibling was not at home as she stays in the hostel of SMK Dong.
“This trial is surely far too heavy to bear — losing loved ones in an instant, especially when it involves almost the entire family,” he said.
He also said that Mara would extend appropriate assistance and ensure that the welfare of the surviving family members continues to receive attention and the necessary support during this difficult period.
In the incident at about 3.55am today, five family members — a husband and wife and their three daughters were killed when their house caught fire.
According to the Director of the Pahang Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia, Datuk Mohd Razam Taja Rahim, firefighters arrived at the scene at 4.15am and managed to bring the blaze under control at 4.48am.
He said the fire completely destroyed 100 per cent of the house structure and also involved three cars and three motorcycles. — 26 February 2026
