KUALA LUMPUR – Independent preacher Zamri Vinoth and activist Tamim Dahri, both under investigation in separate cases, have fled to Thailand, police confirmed yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said efforts to track down the duo are underway with assistance from Thai authorities.

He revealed that the investigation into Zamri’s remarks at a rally in the capital on February 7 has been referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers, with charges to be framed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements likely to incite fear or alarm among the public.

Zamri also faces charges under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act for allegedly insulting the Indian community, with the case referred to the Penang prosecution office.

Meanwhile, Tamim’s case involving the destruction of a sacred Hindu soolam (trident) at an old temple in Langkawi has been referred to the Kedah prosecution office, with charges under Section 295 of the Penal Code.

“Charges will be filed once both individuals are traced and brought home,” Mohd Khalid said in a statement.

He stressed that police remain firm in safeguarding public order and will not tolerate actions that threaten national security. – March 14, 2026
