KUALA LUMPUR – Independent preacher Zamri Vinoth has denied reports that he fled Malaysia following allegations linking him to incitement of violence, insisting he is ready to cooperate fully with authorities.

In a post on Facebook today, Zamri said he has no reason to run and expressed his willingness to meet the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to clarify the matter.

“I am prepared to meet the IGP if necessary, insya-ALLAH. I am not running, and there is no reason for me to do so,” he wrote.

Zamri also questioned why he has been singled out amid a string of incidents involving assaults, vehicle arson, and property damage.

“Why am I the only one being accused? What wrong have I done? What have I incited? No one from our side has attacked anyone, set fire to vehicles, or damaged anyone’s property,” he said.

He added that other individuals allegedly involved in incitement linked to violent acts have not faced similar scrutiny, stressing that any charges should be applied equally to all implicated parties.

Earlier, police reported that Zamri and activist Tamim Dahri, both under investigation for separate matters, had fled to Thailand. IGP Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that efforts are underway to locate the two, with support from Thai authorities.

Zamri is being investigated over remarks he made at a rally in Kuala Lumpur on February 7. The case has been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, with potential charges under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements intended to cause public mischief and fear.

Separately, another probe into Zamri’s allegedly racially offensive comments targeting the Indian community has been sent to the Penang Prosecution Office, which may press charges under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

Tamim’s case relates to the desecration of a soolam, a sacred Hindu symbol, at an old temple in Langkawi, Kedah. The matter has been referred to the Kedah Prosecution Office, with proposed charges under Section 295 of the Penal Code.

Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid said formal charges will be filed once both Zamri and Tamim are located and returned to Malaysia. – March 14, 2026
