KUALA LUMPUR – Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has been officially elected as Muda president for the 2026–2029 term, following the party’s first internal elections today.
This came despite Amira finishing third in the vote for the Central Executive Committee (JKEP).
Amira received 103 votes from delegates, trailing Leben Siddarth who led with 110 votes, while Saiyidah Izzati Nur placed second with 104 votes, local media reported.
Under Muda’s election system, the top 25 candidates in the JKEP vote are selected before deciding the party’s top leadership, including the presidency.
Amira, who previously served as acting president, was seen as the leading candidate for the role, receiving backing from several contenders ahead of the vote.
The long-delayed first internal elections of MUDA saw participation from approximately 125 delegates.
Following the inaugural JKEP meeting today, Amira Aisya announced the party’s new leadership line-up, confirming unanimous decisions on key appointments, including the selection of Zaidil Baharudin as MUDA Deputy President.
“These appointments were agreed upon during today’s JKEP meeting as part of forming the new leadership following elections involving young party members,” she said.
The results were formally declared by Muda Election Director Muhammad Zaim Zulkafli during the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), which coincided with the selection of the 25-member JKEP.
Zaidil Baharuddin will serve as Deputy President, while Ainie Haziqah retains the role of Muda Secretary-General. Five vice presidents were also appointed: Faezrah Rizalman, Leben Siddarth, Zarul Afiq, Dobby Chew, and Dr Siva Prakash.
In her closing speech, Amira said details of the remaining JKEP posts would be announced after Hari Raya.
“The appointments of the Treasurer-General and five JKEP members under the President’s jurisdiction will be announced after the Raya break. I leave it to the new Information Chief, Rasid Abu Bakar, to hold the next media briefing,” she said on Saturday.
Amira also reminded all 25 JKEP members that the delegates’ choice carries significant responsibility.
“I am confident that all 25 JKEP members of Muda have their own missions and visions. If we continue the work as promised in our campaign manifestos, Muda can achieve great things in the 2026–2029 term. I ask for the delegates’ prayers so that we can perform our duties to raise the voice of the people,” she added. – March 14, 2026
