KUALA LUMPUR – Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim has been named chairman of U Mobile Sdn Bhd, effective March 13, 2026, following Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun’s resignation from the role on March 12, 2026.
U Mobile said in a statement today that Tan will take on the position of founder and adviser to the board, continuing to guide and support the company’s growth.
Tan highlighted that the recent board changes underline U Mobile’s dedication to building a digital infrastructure that is reliable, scalable, and delivered on schedule.
“Our focus is to strengthen governance and long-term funding support, so the management team can accelerate rollout and meet the coverage expectations set for the country’s second Fifth Generation (5G) network. I am delighted to share that U Mobile has been progressing well and is ahead of deployment schedule,” he said.
Tunku Aminah, according to U Mobile, brings considerable leadership and governance experience, having led private organisations across multiple sectors and served on the boards of several public-listed and private companies.
Her appointment coincides with Mawar Setia Sdn Bhd increasing its equity stake in U Mobile to over 50%, following a share purchase from Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte Ltd (STT).
Mawar Setia, a Malaysian investment holding company, was founded by Tan and Tunku Aminah. – March 17, 2026
