KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with telecommunications providers, has taken proactive measures to strengthen the country’s communication networks ahead of Aidilfitri 2026.
In a statement today, MCMC said the initiatives aim to ensure the public enjoys uninterrupted communication services, including calls, messaging, internet browsing, and video connections, particularly during the annual return to hometowns.
According to the statement, a total of 866 temporary network reinforcement initiatives have been implemented by telcos since early March to accommodate the anticipated surge in communication traffic over the festive period.
Of these, 774 initiatives involved network optimisation to improve coverage and capacity, while 27 focused on 5G activation and modernisation. Another 21 initiatives provided temporary solutions such as Portable Base Transceiver Stations and Cellular on Wheels, alongside network upgrades and infrastructure-sharing arrangements among operators.

The efforts prioritise high-risk congestion areas, including major highways, rest and service areas, roadside stops, tourist destinations, and other public gathering spots.
Telcos have been instructed to continuously monitor network performance and take immediate action should service disruptions or declines in quality occur. MCMC acts as coordinator and supervisor through its state offices, also conducting responsive field monitoring at critical locations.
Members of the public experiencing network issues are advised to contact their respective telco providers or submit complaints via MCMC’s official portal to ensure prompt follow-up.
MCMC reaffirmed its commitment to providing Malaysians with smooth and secure communication services, especially during crucial periods such as Aidilfitri, when families reunite and celebrate together. — March 19, 2026
