KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has called on Apple users to update their iOS devices without delay following the detection of several security vulnerabilities.
In a statement today, MCMC highlighted that Apple has issued a critical security update addressing multiple flaws, including an exploit chain dubbed “DarkSword” that specifically targets iPhones.
“These vulnerabilities could be exploited together to compromise affected devices, potentially allowing unauthorised access and other malicious activities,” the statement said.
“Users are therefore advised to update their devices to the latest iOS version to ensure they remain protected,” it added.
MCMC warned that devices not updated may be at risk of unauthorised access to personal data, installation of spyware or malicious software, theft of messages, files, or other sensitive information, as well as potential monitoring or surveillance.
The commission urged users to enable automatic updates, refrain from visiting suspicious websites, install apps only from the official Apple App Store, restart devices after updating, and remain vigilant for unusual activity.
It also advised the public to practise safe digital habits and rely solely on information from official sources. – March 19, 2026
