KUALA LUMPUR – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to make public the findings on Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholdings, but only after ongoing investigations are fully completed.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the disclosure would depend on the conclusion of all aspects of the probe, as well as the decision of a ministerial committee overseeing the matter.
“The commitment of the Ministerial Committee is that, after both aspects of the investigation are completed, Azam Baki’s shareholdings will be made public,” he said while answering a question from a Bloomberg reporter during a press conference today.
However, Fahmi stressed that the process is still ongoing and must be allowed to run its course before any information is released.
He added that the process is being led by Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
“At this time, as stated in a statement yesterday, there is a process that needs to be carried out, and we will leave it to the KSN to manage it,” Fahmi said.
He said that while information from the investigation can eventually be disclosed, the timing remains at the discretion of the ministerial committee.
“As for the information from the investigation into Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholdings, it can be released. However, it is up to the Ministerial Committee to decide when it is appropriate,” Fahmi said.
He reiterated that no further action would be taken until the investigations are completed, underscoring the government’s position on prioritising due process.
“It is up to the Ministerial Committee,” he added.
Meanwhile, Fahmi also addressed allegations by an international media outlet linking Azam Baki’s shareholdings to possible corporate manipulation, stressing that the matter remains under active investigation.
He said that, as previously stated by authorities under the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA), the probe is ongoing and no conclusions have been reached.
Earlier, the government firmly rejected Bloomberg’s claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had requested a special committee to delay the release of findings related to the investigation into Azam Baki’s shareholdings.
Following the allegations, Shamsul Azri said the Attorney General’s Chambers would pursue further action against Bloomberg over the report. — April 1, 2026
