KUALA LUMPUR – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has confirmed that his long-awaited defamation case against three individuals will begin this Monday at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
The lawsuit names blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, preacher Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani, and Facebook user Mohd Fauzan Madzlan, who are accused of defaming Fahmi in 2023 by alleging that he delivered a political speech inside a mosque.
“God willing, this Monday my defamation case against three individuals will begin… Wan Azri, Ahmad Dusuki and a man named Ahmad Fauzan… all three of them defamed me in 2023 by claiming that I had conducted political campaigning inside a mosque,” Fahmi, who is also the government’s spokesperson, said.
Fahmi said this during the opening of the annual meeting for Federal Territories PKR Branches at an event space in Bandar Tun Razak here this evening.
Fahmi, who is the Lembah Pantai MP and information chief of PKR, explained that the lawsuit was filed almost immediately after the alleged incident, although the court process has taken three years to reach trial.
Fahmi will give testimony as a witness, with his lawyer Asheeq Ali representing him in court.
Fahmi emphasised that the purpose of the suit is to restore his reputation after years of public speculation.
“We have waited three years. I want to clear my name. We are bringing those accused of defaming me to court,” he added.
The allegations, which first emerged in 2023, claimed that Fahmi had engaged in political campaigning within a mosque, a claim the minister has consistently denied, describing it as defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
Meanwhile, Asheeq said that the minister had not set the amount in damages to be claimed as a result of the allegation.
“Any form of damages to be claimed would be left for the judge to decide,” – April 3, 2026
