KUALA LUMPUR – A fire last night nearly destroyed the family home of Seremban Jaya State Assemblyman Datuk P. Gunasekaran in Kampung Baru Rahang.

The incident occurred at around 9pm while the occupants – Gunasekaran’s younger brother, P. Minnal Veeran, 61, his wife J. Arasi, 53, and their two children – were out for dinner.

“The old house holds many memories. All of us siblings used to live together, but after I bought another house, my younger brother continued living here with his family.

“I estimate the losses to be around RM40,000, as many valuable items including catering equipment, electrical appliances, and old belongings in the house could not be saved,” Gunasekaran said.

He noted that his brother is currently staying with his daughter in Senawang, while authorities continue to investigate the fire’s cause.

Operations Commander Helmi Mohd Fauzi reported that 13 firefighters from the Seremban Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by BBP Ampangan, were deployed to the scene.

“The fire department received an emergency call at 10pm and arrived at the location approximately seven minutes later.

“The fire involved a house measuring 30 x 50 square feet, which was about 95 per cent destroyed.

“The operation concluded at 11.52pm, and no casualties were reported,” he added. – April 7, 2026
