KUALA LUMPUR – Retail fuel prices in Peninsular Malaysia are set to decrease this week following the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), the Finance Ministry announced.

From April 16 to 22, the price of diesel will be reduced by 75 sen to RM5.97 per litre, while unsubsidised RON95 and RON97 petrol will fall 25 sen to RM4.02 and RM5.10 per litre respectively.

“With the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the government will continue to closely monitor developments and take measures to ensure a stable fuel supply, while protecting the public and the economy from the full impact of supply chain disruptions,” the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday (April 15).

Meanwhile, the government continues to uphold targeted subsidies for specific groups and sectors. RON95 under the Budi95 programme remains at RM1.99 per litre, and diesel prices in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan are maintained at RM2.15 per litre.

Subsidised prices under the Sistem Kawalan Petrol Bersubsidi (SKPS) and Sistem Kawalan Diesel Bersubsidi (SKDS) are fixed at RM2.05 and RM2.15 per litre respectively.

The ministry noted that the government is expected to absorb about RM7 billion monthly at current prices.

“RON95 subsidies have risen from around RM300 million before the conflict to roughly RM4 billion per month, while diesel subsidies have surged from approximately RM400 million to about RM3 billion monthly,” it said.

Additionally, the monthly Budi95 fuel allocation has been temporarily adjusted to 200 litres per recipient since April 1.

Diesel purchases in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan are also regulated, with limits set at 50 litres for light vehicles, 100 litres for vehicles under three tonnes, and 150 litres for those above three tonnes.

“As an interim measure following the rise in diesel prices, the government will continue providing additional Budi Diesel cash assistance of RM100 in April, bringing total aid to RM300 for recipients under Budi Individu and Budi Agri-Komoditi,” the ministry added.

The government affirmed that it will closely monitor global developments and act as necessary to maintain a stable energy supply while reinforcing protections for the public. – April 15, 2026
