KUALA LUMPUR — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has confirmed that the public restroom linked to a recent voyeurism incident near the Sentul LRT station does not fall under its jurisdiction, reinforcing ongoing questions over oversight of the facility.
“Based on our records, the toilet is not under DBKL,” Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud told Scoop, when contacted. He suggested the matter be reconfirmed with Prasarana to determine the facility’s management status.
The clarification follows earlier reporting that the restroom sits outside Prasarana’s core premises, placing it beyond the transport operator’s direct responsibility and raising concerns over accountability for maintenance and security.
The incident occurred on the morning of April 16, when a woman using the restroom discovered a man peering at her from above her cubicle, allegedly after removing part of the ceiling panel.
She screamed for help and attempted to flee, before the suspect was apprehended by auxiliary police stationed nearby. He has since been remanded to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person, an offence punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Sources earlier told Scoop that the restroom is located outside monitored zones, and is not equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV), further underscoring concerns over safety at public-facing facilities linked to transit hubs.
The incident has highlighted a grey area in jurisdiction, with questions emerging over oversight and the need for clearer delineation of responsibilities and safeguards.
