KUALA LUMPUR — Among ethnic groups in Malaysia, Indians are the least likely to become scam victims, Penang police said, citing data collated in the state.
Penang Commercial Crime Investigation Department deputy chief DSP Pang Meng Tuck said this was due to their questioning nature.
“Say a scammer tries to convince an Indian victim of a kidnapping that has never happened. The victim will ask: who was kidnapped? Where? When? Why?
“The questions keep coming until the scammer just gives up and moves on,” MySinChew reported him saying.
Pang was speaking at a scam prevention forum in Penang earlier today.
He said data collated by Penang police on scam cases showed that Indians are scammed less frequently than other ethnic groups.
Arrested scammers also told police that although they do target Indians, scammers found them “difficult to deceive because they respond with a barrage of questions”, MySinChew quoted Pand as saying.
Police data from 2025 published by MySinChew showed that Chinese were the largest group of scammers. – April 26, 2026
