KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) in Negeri Sembilan has declared it now holds a simple majority to form a new state government, following support expressed by five Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen.
In a statement today, Umno-BN Negeri Sembilan said it welcomed the willingness of PN representatives to cooperate “in the interest of the state”, stressing that the rakyat’s needs must take precedence over partisan considerations.
“In this extraordinary situation, we are determined to set aside ideological differences to ensure a stable government can be formed immediately,” it said.
The coalition added that a majority of assemblymen would help strengthen development and preserve customs and traditions in the state, while describing its approach as pragmatic and inclusive.
It concluded that, with the backing of five PN assemblymen, Umno-BN now has the numbers to form the state government.
The development comes amid a deepening political crisis after all 14 Umno assemblymen withdrew support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, placing his administration under pressure.
Earlier, PN confirmed its readiness to cooperate with BN, saying the move was aimed at restoring stability and ensuring continuity in governance.
However, the move has triggered internal tensions within Umno, with party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly saying the actions of the 14 BN assemblymen were taken independently and will be reviewed by the party’s supreme council.
Complicating matters further, Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has advised Aminuddin to continue administering the state until his majority support is formally determined.
The unfolding developments raise the prospect of a change in government, although the situation remains fluid pending political and constitutional clarity. – April 27, 2026
