KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is working with Meta and the Royal Malaysia Police to carry out forensic analysis as part of an investigation into a social media post containing an image deemed insulting to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the investigation was necessary after a man called in by the MCMC to have his statement recorded denied uploading the content, which is believed to contain elements of 3R involving royalty, religion and race.

“Among the matters currently under scrutiny is whether there are elements of fake accounts or an agent provocateur, who deliberately produces, creates fake accounts to upload content that then victimises other parties as well as causing public anger,” he said.

Fahmi, who is also the Madani Government spokesman, said this during a post-Cabinet press conference and global supply crisis briefing here today.

He said authorities have not ruled out the possibility that fake accounts were created specifically to upload 3R-related content, adding that further statements would be left to the police and MCMC.

On Monday, the MCMC recorded the statement of an individual believed to be the administrator of the Facebook account “HuaYan The Pureland Learning Centre” over the posting of an edited image insulting to the Sultan of Selangor.

The case has drawn attention due to its potential impact on public order and sensitivities involving the royal institution. – April 29, 2026
