KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s address on preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16) will take centre stage at the PH 2026 Convention tomorrow, attracting over 5,000 delegates.
PH Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil described the speech as pivotal in shaping the coalition’s operational strategy, noting that the parliamentary term has matured and state elections in Johor and Melaka are imminent, Bernama reported.
“The Prime Minister will outline the direction for PH, not only in facing the Johor and Melaka state polls, which are expected in the near term, but also in preparing PH for GE16, which may take place approximately a year and a half from now,” he said.
Fahmi made the remarks after reviewing final arrangements for the convention at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru today.
He stressed the importance of strengthening early campaign efforts, given that the current parliamentary term will conclude by the end of 2027.
“Considering that the three-year parliamentary maturity period has passed… within roughly a year and a half, we will be preparing for GE16,” he added.
Commenting on the convention’s organisation, Fahmi said attendance from across the country is expected to surpass the initial target of 3,000 delegates.
In addition, a public rally and primary speech are scheduled in the Putri Wangsa state constituency in the afternoon, providing local residents an opportunity to hear directly from the coalition’s top leadership. – May 16, 2026
