KUALA LUMPUR — PAS has triggered an emergency high-level meeting today to deliberate its future within Perikatan Nasional (PN), casting fresh doubt over its increasingly fragile alliance with component partner Bersatu.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the closed-door meeting—called on short notice—kicked off at 11am in Kuala Terengganu. It is being chaired by PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and involves the party’s top brass, including its Political Bureau and Central Committee.
Among the heavyweight leaders spotted at the session are Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, and Vice-President Datuk Idris Ahmad.
Strained ties
Tensions between the two Malay-centric parties have hit a new low after Abdul Hadi openly declared that PAS is re-evaluating its partnership with Bersatu.
The Marang MP revealed the decision was prompted by a string of “unpleasant” moves by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s party that allegedly violated the spirit of coalition camaraderie.
Reacting to the friction, Bersatu Information Chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz stated that his party will haul the issue into its own Political Bureau and Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) meetings soon for an in-depth autopsy.
With both sides now huddling behind closed doors, the future of the opposition bloc hangs precariously in the balance. – May 24, 2026
