KUALA LUMPUR – The process of clearing pig farms in Tanjong Sepat is nearing completion, with about 11,000 pigs still remaining.
Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco Datuk Izham Hashim said the figure involves around 30 farms that are still operating, Kosmo reported.
He said the remaining livestock have yet to reach suitable maturity for disposal or slaughter since the closure order was issued in February.
“There are no new piglets being brought in, and all of them will be slaughtered at the abattoir in Rawang.
“So the process is being carried out in stages and we expect it to be completed soon,” he said when met at the Selangor Journalists and Photographers Association (Wajar) Korban programme at Surau Haji Hassan in Sijangkang on Monday.
It was reported on May 18 that all pig farms in Tanjong Sepat will be fully cleared and closed by the end of next month, ahead of enforcement beginning on July 1.
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has maintained his stance that he does not approve of any pig farming activities in any district in Selangor, as previously stated.
In a related development, Izham said the state government will assist 87 affected farm operators in transitioning to other agricultural activities once pig farming operations end.
“I and the Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security recently held a meeting to discuss the matter.
“The transition is important to ensure high-value agricultural activities can be carried out on the 350-acre (141.64-hectare) site,” he said.
He added that a meeting will be held on June 9 to identify the best approach between the federal and state governments to support farmers, particularly in rehabilitating the affected land. – May 28, 2026
