KUALA LUMPUR – A FamilyMart employee has been suspended from duty pending an internal investigation after allegations that the staff member threw soup at a delivery rider during an altercation at one of its outlets.

In a statement to Scoop, the convenience store chain said it is treating the matter seriously and has taken immediate steps while inquiries are underway.

“Our team is investigating the incident with urgency, and the staff member (allegedly) involved has been placed off duty pending the outcome of the investigation,” said FamilyMart Malaysia.

“FamilyMart does not tolerate any rude, unsafe or disrespectful behaviour towards anyone in our stores, whether customers, delivery partners or members of the public.

“We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment, and we will take appropriate action once the investigation is completed.”

The company also urged the public to remain patient while the process is ongoing, adding that further disciplinary measures will be taken if warranted based on the findings.

“We seek understanding from all parties as we conduct a thorough review of what transpired. Should any wrongdoing be established, firm and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with our internal policies and standards,” the statement added.

The incident came to public attention after a 23-second video circulated on social media on Friday, showing a heated exchange between a delivery rider and a FamilyMart staff member.

The altercation is believed to have taken place at an outlet in The Core, Kota Damansara.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), a user claiming to be the delivery rider alleged that the confrontation began after he asked about the status of his order.

He claimed the staff member responded rudely before allegedly throwing soup at him during the dispute. – May 28, 2026
