KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysians may soon be able to apply for passports valid for up to 10 years under a newly gazetted government order.
The Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026, published in the Federal Government Gazette yesterday, sets the fee for a 10-year passport at RM350 for applicants aged 18 to 59, according to Malay Mail Online. Previously, Malaysian passports were valid for five years.
“Senior citizens aged 60 and above would only need to pay RM175 for the 10-year passport, while it would be free for those with disabilities (OKU),” the gazette stated. It also noted that the passport would be free for officers and staff of the Immigration Department.
The order also details replacement fees for lost or damaged passports. For those aged 18 to 59, the cost is RM550 for the first replacement, RM850 for the second, and RM1,350 for a third or subsequent replacement.
“For senior citizens, the first replacement would be RM375, RM675 (second), RM1,175 for subsequent replacements, while a disabled person would have to pay RM200, RM500 and RM1,000 for replacements,” the gazette added.
The new order also revises replacement fees for five-year passports, including a separate category for Hajj pilgrims, and removes free replacement for OKU holders under the age of 18.
According to the Immigration Department’s website, fines currently apply for first-time (RM200), second-time (RM500), and third or subsequent (RM1,000) passport replacements due to loss or damage. However, seniors aged 60 and above and OKU holders are exempt from these fines.
At present, the government has not announced when applications for the 10-year passport will open. The gazette was signed by Chief Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and will be tabled at the Dewan Rakyat under Section 4 of the Fees Act 1951. – June 4, 2026
