KUALA LUMPUR – Endau assemblywoman Alwiyah Talib has announced her departure from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and her return to Umno.
The Mersing Bersatu chief said the decision was made after considering several factors she regarded as crucial to the welfare and future of the Endau constituency, according to a report by Sinar Harian.
She said the move also involved resigning from all positions she held within Bersatu and was made of her own accord, without influence from any party.
“After taking into account several aspects, for the good and future of DUN Endau, I have decided to leave Bersatu and resign from all my positions in the party with immediate effect, and return to UMNO,” Alwiyah said during a press conference on Thursday.
Alwiyah stressed that her commitment to serving the people of Endau would remain unchanged despite her decision to leave Bersatu.
“This decision is, among other things, aimed at ensuring continued development and a brighter future, while also strengthening unity within DUN Endau,” she added.
She also expressed appreciation to voters and all parties who had supported and worked alongside her throughout her service as the constituency’s representative since 2018.
Alwiyah said she hoped the strong relationships forged over the years would continue to ensure the welfare of Endau residents remains protected.
She first won the Endau seat in the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018 under the Barisan Nasional ticket representing Umno. – June 4, 2026
