KUALA LUMPUR – The Federal Government continues to recognise Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister also warned that any attempt to remove or depose a ruler would have significant consequences for the nation.
“The crisis in Negeri Sembilan is certainly somewhat worrying because the Royal Institution has its own rules, procedures, and dignity. If it is challenged in this manner, it sends a very negative message.
“We must follow the court process, which has already made a decision today. We have also given advice, but despite that, the proclamation went ahead at a hotel, which I believe also affects the image and identity of a ruler being proclaimed in a hotel compound,” he said.
Anwar made the remarks to reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Meranti in Puchong today.
Earlier, Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar was reported to have been installed as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan during a ceremony held at a resort in Negeri Sembilan today.
The proclamation was made during a brief ceremony by Undang Luak Jelebu, Maarof Mat Rashad, who represented the Undang Yang Empat (the Four Chieftains).
This development comes after Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun confirmed late last night that Tuanku Muhriz had consented to the dissolution of the 36-seat State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for a state election.
The crisis in Negeri Sembilan began after 14 Barisan Nasional state assembly members withdrew their support for Aminuddin, citing dissatisfaction with his handling of the royal dispute.
However, the High Court of Negeri Sembilan today barred a Special Session of the Dewan Keadilan Undang (DKU) from proceeding and maintained Raja Norazli Raja Nordin as the DKU Secretary until the related legal proceedings are resolved.
Judge Roz Mawar Rozain granted an interim injunction filed by Raja Norazli and the DKU to preserve the status quo of the body’s administration.
Senior lawyer Steven Thiru, representing Raja Norazli and the DKU, confirmed that the court also prohibited any effort to suspend, remove, or replace his client from the position he currently holds. — June 5, 2026
