EC to fix Johor, Negeri Sembilan election dates this Friday

Election Commission to hold meeting to discuss dates and planning for snap polls in both states

KUALA LUMPUR — The Election Commission (EC) is expected to announce dates for the Negeri Sembilan and Johor state elections this Friday.

EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the commission will be meeting on June 12 to discuss election planning for both states.

“Following the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan assembly, EC has fixed June 12 to hold a special meeting regarding elections for Negeri Sembilan concurrently with the meeting on the Johor elections.

“A press conference will be held after the meeting,” Khairul Shahril said in a statement today.

EC’s meeting this Friday will be chaired by the commission’s chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

The commission is to discuss dates for nomination day, voting and the update electoral roll.

Negeri Sembilan’s legislative assembly was dissolved on June 5, while Johor’s was dissolved on June 1.

Both states will hold snap polls, as the Negeri Sembilan assembly was only due to expire in November 2028 And Johor’s in April 2027. – June 8, 2026
