KUALA LUMPUR – Larut MP Hamzah Zainudin has ended months of speculation over his political direction after unveiling a new political party, Parti Wawasan Negara, during the Reset Convention in Kelantan.
Hamzah, a former deputy president of Bersatu, said the party’s name was proposed by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
He confirmed that the party’s first Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held next year.
“I would like to inform that we will be holding our first AGM next year. The name of the party was given by my elder (Hadi), and the party is called Parti Wawasan Negara.
“Alhamdulillah, we are still newly formed. When something is newly born, if it is not guided, nurtured and supported by an elder, we would not know our direction.
“We want to work together with PAS, Gerakan and other parties,” he said during his speech at the convention in Tanah Merah, Kelantan.
Also present were PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Perikatan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, former Bersatu Melaka chief Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, and former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Hamzah said Parti Wawasan Negara aims to foster broader political cooperation in support of national development.
Before joining Bersatu, he was among Umno MPs who left the party in December 2018 after losing confidence in the leadership of Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
In February, Hamzah was expelled from Bersatu after the party’s disciplinary board invoked Clause 22.5 of its constitution.
Several others were also expelled, including Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, Kapten Azahari Hasan (Padang Rengas), Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik), Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, Bemban assemblyman Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub, and Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Following his expulsion, Hamzah went on to establish the Reset movement, while previously declining to confirm or disclose which political party he intended to join. – June 13, 2026
