KUALA LUMPUR — In a dramatic turn at the Reset Convention in Kelantan, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed that Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin will remain Opposition Leader, underscoring the party’s shifting alliances and looming electoral battles.
Yesterday, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that Hamzah, who is also the Larut MP, would remain Opposition Leader during the Reset Convention at Tapak Ekspo Kota Harmoni in Tanah Merah, Kelantan.
Abdul Hadi, the Marang MP, said PAS and Gerakan Reset had agreed to retain Hamzah in the role, adding that the decision was reached through consultation within PAS and among MPs.
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, the Terengganu menteri besar, had briefly held the position, making him one of the shortest-serving Opposition Leaders in Malaysia’s political history before the role reverted to Hamzah.
In a separate development, PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man revealed that the party had yet to finalise its candidates for the upcoming 16th Negeri Sembilan election.
He said the official list of prospective candidates had not been received.
“The list will eventually be brought back to the PAS Central Committee, where we will determine who is best suited and formally select our candidates,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim explained that each constituency would typically submit two or three names for consideration before a final decision was made.
He added that the number of seats PAS would contest was also still under review. – June 14, 2026
