KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) chief executive officer Ilyas Jamil pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to seven corruption charges involving more than RM1 million linked to a tender for the upgrading of the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.
Ilyas, 42, entered the plea after all charges were read before Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin.
According to the first charge, Ilyas was accused of soliciting RM1.005 million from contractor Yap Yeow Kuen, 59, as an inducement to appoint Aerolux Power Constructions Sdn Bhd as the successful bidder for the RM8.73 million project to upgrade courts and sports facilities at the National Squash Centre in Kuala Lumpur Sports City.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at the PSM office in Sri Petaling on Feb 24 this year.
For the remaining six charges, he was accused of receiving bribes totalling RM450,000 from Yap through seven transactions between Feb 25 and April 13 as an inducement in relation to the same project.
The payments were allegedly received at the PSM office and at a restaurant in Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
All the offences were charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
If convicted, he faces punishment under Section 24(1) of the same Act.
On June 15, media reports quoted MACC Chief Commissioner Abdul Halim Aman as saying that the chief executive of a statutory body would be charged in connection with a corruption case.
He said the individual would face seven charges — one count of soliciting a bribe and six counts of accepting bribes.
On April 13, the individual was remanded for five days beginning April 14 to assist in the investigation. — June 18, 2026.
