KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has appointed technology entrepreneur and MOL Global Inc founder Ganesh Kumar Bangah as its non-executive chairman.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency said the appointment comes at a pivotal stage as Malaysia advances from digital adoption towards deeper implementation in artificial intelligence, digital investments, SME digitalisation, talent development, GovTech innovation, and the nurturing of local technology champions, Bernama reported.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said Ganesh’s extensive experience in building and scaling technology companies would help strengthen MDEC’s role in aligning government priorities with industry execution.
“Ganesh’s appointment reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that MDEC continues to be guided by strong industry experience and expertise as Malaysia enters our nation’s next phase of digital economy growth.
“This experience will be valuable as we continue to translate Malaysia’s digital economy priorities into outcomes that support investment, innovation, job creation and wider participation by businesses and local talent,” he said.
Ganesh has served on the MDEC board since February 2025. He is also a board member of Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet), and previously held leadership roles including chairman of the National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) and board member of the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC).
Widely recognised as a veteran tech entrepreneur, he has built and scaled digital platforms across online payments, e-commerce, social commerce, and the creator economy.
MDEC chief executive officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil said Ganesh’s appointment would strengthen the agency’s efforts to remain agile and closely aligned with industry needs.
“Ganesh’s vast experience in building technology companies, supporting entrepreneurs and working across the ecosystem will be valuable in helping us strengthen that industry alignment,” he said.
He added that MDEC remains committed to turning Malaysia’s digital economy agenda into concrete outcomes for businesses, SMEs, talent and local technology firms, while ensuring growth is inclusive, innovation-driven and supportive of the country’s position as a trusted regional digital hub. — June 19, 2026
