KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 32,461 members from 13 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) in Sabak Bernam will be mobilised as community agents and ambassadors to strengthen the link between the government and local residents.

Selangor Tourism and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the initiative would not only support the dissemination of up-to-date information to rural communities, but also play an important role in raising awareness on digital safety, Bernama reported.

“I welcome community-based programmes such as this because internet safety messages can be delivered in a relaxed, interactive and easily understood manner.

“More importantly, initiatives like this show that efforts to strengthen digital safety are not limited to major cities but are being extended to the grassroots level so that the benefits can be enjoyed by all segments of society,” he said at the launch of the Sabak Bernam Mini Safe Internet Campaign Carnival here today.

Ng said the growing complexity of cyberspace, particularly online scams targeting those less familiar with digital threats, made such efforts increasingly necessary.

He added that digital development should not focus solely on expanding infrastructure and access, but must also be accompanied by stronger digital literacy and safety awareness to ensure responsible use of technology.

“In today’s digital world, threats no longer come face-to-face. They can appear through convincing messages, seemingly legitimate links or content shared without proper verification.

“Therefore, the public must remain vigilant, think critically and adopt safer and more ethical online practices,” he said.

Earlier, Ng officiated the campaign carnival organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which aims to boost public awareness on online safety and promote responsible internet usage.

The programme, attended by about 300 participants from the local community, featured briefings on internet safety as well as online content responsibility. – June 21, 2026
