KUALA LUMPUR — The Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3 Shah Alam Line) has been fully completed and is ready to begin passenger service, marking a major milestone for the 37.8-kilometre rail corridor connecting Bandar Utama to Johan Setia.

Shah Alam Line chief Mohd Ariffin Idris confirmed that the official launch will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday, June 28, with the event expected to draw attention from commuters and stakeholders along the route, which is projected to benefit around two million residents, Bernama reported

He said the Prime Minister will also announce the commercial operating date and time for the 20-station line during the ceremony.

“The new stations are Bandar Utama, Kayu Ara, BU 11 (Bandar Utama 11), Damansara Idaman, Subang, Glenmarie 2, Kerjaya, Stadium Shah Alam, Dato’ Menteri, and UiTM Shah Alam.

“The remaining 10 stations are Seksyen 7 Shah Alam, Bandar Baru Klang, Pasar Klang, Jalan Meru, Jambatan Kota, Taman Selatan, Seri Andalas, Klang Jaya, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, and Johan Setia,” he told reporters during a pre-opening media ride on the service.

Mohd Ariffin said the line will offer seamless integration with existing rail networks, including interchange connections to the Kajang Line at Bandar Utama and the Kelana Jaya Line at Glenmarie 2.

To support first- and last-mile connectivity, the network will be backed by 40 feeder bus routes covering 13 corridors with 323 stops, priced at RM1 per ride between 6am and 11.30pm.

“We also offer Rapid On-Demand van services, with 44 vans serving 20 zones at RM2 per trip, available during the same operating hours,” he said.

He added that both feeder bus and van services will be continuously reviewed and adjusted based on commuter demand and travel patterns once operations begin.

For motorists, parking facilities are provided at six stations — Kayu Ara, Damansara Idaman, Pasar Besar Klang, Sri Andalas, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, and Johan Setia — offering a total of 2,300 bays.

Looking ahead, he said Prasarana Malaysia Berhad is targeting an initial ridership of 67,000 passengers daily in the first year of operations, with projections rising to 117,708 daily users within five years.

He added that the Shah Alam Line incorporates several sustainability features, including inverter-based air-conditioning systems for the trains and smart cooling technologies.

Station designs have also been optimised to maximise natural ventilation and daylight usage, helping reduce overall energy consumption.

Accessibility features have been prioritised across the network, with all stations equipped with wheelchair ramps, accessible toilets, and designated seating for persons with disabilities in every train carriage.

Mohd Ariffin also confirmed that reconstruction works for the Tropicana, Raja Muda, Temasya, Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanik stations are scheduled to begin by the end of the year. – June 27, 2026
