KUALA LUMPUR — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) raided a premises at Jalan Pusat Perdagangan Lagoon Perdana in Petaling Jaya two days ago over suspected activities deemed contrary to religious fatwa and linked to Shiite teachings.
JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the operation was carried out at 9.34pm following public information and resulted in the inspection of 226 foreign nationals, comprising 147 men, 51 women and 28 children.
“The operation involved cooperation between JAIS, the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Immigration Department, Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), with a total strength of 120 personnel,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the raid was conducted under the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (Selangor) 1995, with investigations carried out under Sections 12(c), 13 and 16 of the same enactment.
Datuk Shahzihan also said the Subang Jaya City Council (Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ)) issued notices under Subsection 72(1)(a) and (c) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 [Act 133], citing several violations involving unauthorised construction and renovation works.
“Members of the public who have information related to Shiite teachings are urged to contact the JAIS hotline at 1800-88-2424.
“This is to enable appropriate action to be taken. JAIS also advises Muslims not to be involved in any activities related to Shiite teachings,” he said. — June 27, 2026
