KUALA LUMPUR – The first day of operations for the Shah Alam Line received an encouraging response from commuters, who praised the new rail service for its comfortable ride, modern facilities and improved connectivity across the Klang Valley.

Passengers also reported smooth operations, describing the service as comfortable, safe and efficient.

Many commuters noted that trains were already packed on the first day, largely due to the free ride initiative, but said journeys remained orderly and pleasant.

They also expressed confidence in making the Shah Alam Line part of their daily commute.

Among those who experienced the new line was Rajan, 60, who travelled from Sri Andalas to Bandar Utama. He described the overall experience as pleasant, highlighting the cleanliness of both the stations and trains.

“Everything is nice and clean. It’s the first day, so hopefully they can maintain the cleanliness,” he said.

While satisfied with the journey, Rajan suggested retail outlets such as convenience stores would further enhance the commuter experience.

“When people come down from the stations, there’s no shop or anything yet. I think they’ll have it soon, and that will help passengers,” he added, giving the Shah Alam Line a rating of four out of five.

For Lisa, 36, from Shah Alam, the launch was worth taking a day off work to experience the journey.

“I’m excited. We’ve been waiting for a long time because it was delayed, so I took leave today especially to ride this train,” she said.

She praised the clear signage and ease of navigating the stations, saying commuters would have little difficulty finding connecting services.

“The directions are clear, especially for changing stations. Some people say the train is a bit slow, but for me it’s okay because I’m not in a rush,” she said.

Although she noted that parking facilities at certain stations could be improved, Lisa still awarded the Shah Alam Line a perfect five out of five.

Retiree Gurdeep Singh, 64, also commended the new line, describing it as a significant improvement to public transport.

“For the beginning, it is at an advanced level. The ride is comfortable and the timing is also good,” he said.

However, he expressed hope that connectivity through feeder buses, particularly free bus services, would be strengthened.

“The free buses are not going into the station, so it’s a hassle for us. I hope they will be allowed to enter because proper connectivity is important. Other than that, I have no complaints,” he said.

Badrul Hisham, who travelled from Stadium Shah Alam, also enjoyed his first experience on the line, describing the train as comfortable and the station facilities as satisfactory.

“The facilities are okay and the train is comfortable,” he said.

He noted that parking at Stadium Shah Alam station was limited, with available spaces already full by around 2pm, but said he would not hesitate to use the Shah Alam Line whenever needed.

“I think I will use it because it’s very comfortable,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sarah Yasmin, 24, and Brooklyn Ong, 25, praised both the onboard comfort and the improved connectivity offered by the new line.

Brooklyn noted that the train’s air-conditioning was more comfortable than on other rail lines.

“It’s not too cold and it’s not too hot. The seats are also wider compared to some of the other LRT lines, so that’s a plus,” he said.

Sarah welcomed the improved connectivity, saying residents from areas such as Petaling Jaya can now travel to Shah Alam much more conveniently.

“I can easily go to Shah Alam now compared to before. It connects well to the Kajang Line at Bandar Utama and the Kelana Jaya Line at Glenmarie,” she said.

On safety, Sarah acknowledged that the three-coach trains do not feature a dedicated women’s coach but said the wider train design and spacious interior helped ensure a comfortable journey even during busy periods.

“Today, even during peak hours, it wasn’t too crowded. We weren’t packed into each other,” she said.

Overall, commuters welcomed the launch of the Shah Alam Line, describing it as a major boost to public transportation in the Klang Valley.

While some highlighted areas for improvement, particularly parking availability and feeder bus integration, the consensus was that the new line offers a comfortable, efficient and reliable travel option that many are ready to incorporate into their daily routines.

Earlier, Prasarana Group Chief Executive Officer and outgoing president Amir Hamdan said the opening day was expected to attract between 5,000 and 10,000 passengers.

“I think if we achieve between 5,000 and 10,000 passengers today, it would be a good achievement for the first day. Our first-year target is 67,000 passengers daily, but people will need time to get used to the new line,” he said.

In the meantime, passengers can ride the train for free for a month following an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the launch yesterday. – June 29, 2026
